It's getting a lot colder here, which means that we are all freezing are butts off! One thing you wouldn't necesseraly think about though is the fact that it is hard to find food for a lot of animals, especially birds in the winter. I feel really bad for them and like to help them out a bit. It's not expensive at all to make some bird treats and it doesn't take long at all. So, I thought I would show you what I will be putting out for them this year!

What you will need:
Peanuts// peanuts (in shell)// chicken seed mix// cooking fat// re-usable cupcake forms// twine

For the first idea I used this snowman bird feeder and just filled it up with peanuts. It's nice for Christmas decoration and also keeps the birds fed!

For this next idea you will need the chicken seeds, cooking fat, twince and cupcake forms. First, heat up the cooking fat until it's completely melted and then stir in the seeds. Poor it into the cupcake forms and put in a piece of twine, so that you will be able to hang it up outside. Then just leave it overnight.

The next day, take it out of the forms and that's it! It's a lot cheaper than buying bird seeds and very easy to make.

The last idea is another basic one, with a bird feeder and some peanuts (in shell). You could actually make the bird feeder yourself as well, but I already had this one at home. If you want to make it yourself, you can check out this post here. It's not hard to make at all, you can make a very basic one with a basic plastic bottle!

Do you put out food for birds?
